Celebrate The Planet on Earth Day 2010
Earth Day 2010 is going to be a global celebration. People from countries all over our great planet are going to set aside time to celebrate the Earth. This is not some new fad, but rather an established “holiday” for many of us. And this year, that holiday will enjoy the fortieth anniversary of its observation on April 22nd. Want to join in, but don’t know how? Well, you could do what most people do and take part in some community effort to either clean up a river or a park. Some groups keep it small and simple; others make a huge production out of their Earth Day observance. Why not give a gift to those you know and love on Earth Day? But make it something green and something they can use to make the earth a better place.
Give them flowers. Not the kind you get from a flower shop, but the kind you plant! Go to the garden center or your local nursery and see if they have wildflower seeds. Giving each of your friends a packet of the seeds would enable them to enjoy the day with you. Many places give away small sapling trees on Earth Day. Get one for you and few for your neighbors and enjoy a community celebration of the day. Do a bit of volunteer recycling. Offer to help your neighbors, especially senior citizens and other shut-ins, by taking their old newspapers or aluminum cans to the recycling center. Whether you take home saplings to plant baby trees or help clean up your neighbor’s trash, you will be giving something of yourself to make the planet a healthier place for all of us to live. Celebrating Earth Day, after all, is all about making sure the Earth gets and stays healthy for generations yet to come.
